Your comments about the service

We've had loads of useful feedback about the new service and have made a number of improvements as a result of your comments.

Using your Uni files

The only issue is that I can't log onto my account and view/edit my work.

We've created a special Chrome app for you to connect to your personal files at the University. To use it, just click on the little green box at the bottom of the screen and then login with your username and password. Then you can download files from your University documents folder.

Printing

The only limitation is that I can't print from them.

Actually you can! You can use the Sussex webprint service to print most documents (although you might need to convert them to a PDF first).

Full version of Microsoft Office?

A full version of Microsoft Word available on these laptops would make this idea perfect!

The Chromebooks have a basic office program included that lets you edit files.

For more advanced editing, you can now use the Microsoft OneDrive service with your Sussex account. Just login with your username in this format: ano23@sussex.ac.uk and your normal Sussex password and you can use the online versions of Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Reset when closing the lid

I use them a lot as my laptop is very heavy but the fact it logs you off when you close the lid is very frustrating.

This is tricky with laptops that are used by so many different people. We need to make sure your privacy is protected and the way we do this is to reset the laptop when you close the lid. On the other hand, it would be useful if you could close a Chromebook temporarily to move to another part of the Libray.

At the moment, the Chromebook software doesn't include any suitable alternative options, so it's not something we can change right now, but we will keep considering other possibilities as the service develops.
