Can I do a spell check in a different language in Excel?

Excel 2013 and Excel 2016

The dictionary language applies to the entire workbook and cannot be defined for individual worksheets or cells. If your workbook contains words that are in more than one language, you need to check the spelling in one language and then repeat the process for each additional language in your workbook.

  1. Select the cells containing the text that you wish to spell check or to check the entire sheet click into just one cell
  2. On the Review tab, in the Proofing group, click Spelling.
  3. In the Dictionary language list, confirm that the correct dictionary language is selected. If not, select the dictionary language that you want to use, and then click OK.
NOTE:  the Dictionary language list only appears if the spelling checker does not recognize a word.
  4. Click Close to close the spelling checker and then click Spelling again to start the spelling checker with the new dictionary language that you have selected.
