How do I create an an upload widget to a Box folder?

If you need to create a system where anybody can upload a file to an online location, but shouldn't be able to see the uploads of others, you can use Box.com.  This is useful in many situations, for example if you are running a competition or interviewing for a role and your applicants need to upload a video or an example of their work.

You will need to be able to create or edit a Sussex web page in order to use the instructions below.

All Sussex staff currently have a Box account.  For more information about Box, .

Create an anonymous upload widget in Box

  1. Log in to Box.com using your Sussex username and password
  2. Create a new folder, or choose an existing folder.  This will be the location where files appear when people upload their work.
This folder will need to be shared with a colleague in order to create the widget, so ensure that you have shared this folder with at least one colleague at Sussex.  When you've shared the folder, the icon will change from yellow to blue.
  3. In your list of folders, hover over the one you've created/chosen and then click the three dots button.  In this menu, scroll to More actions and then click on Upload embed widget.
  4. A new window called Embed upload widget for this folder will appear.  Fill in your details as necessary.  When you've finished customising the widget, press the Copy button to copy the code for the website widget.
  5. Go to the editor your use to update a Sussex web page and paste the for the widget in the appropriate place.

Please note that you'll need to paste the code from Box.com into the HTML of a page, not as text in an editing window.

To do this in the WCM, please follow these steps:

  1. Go into the WCM and open the page you want to edit
  2. In the list of icons at the top, find the blue “HTML” icon.  Press this.
  3. In the new popup window, you’ll the HTML code for the page.
  4. Paste the code from Box.com into this HTML window.  If you're not sure where to put it, paste this page on a new line at the bottom of your page.
  5. Click the Update button in the bottom left and then save your page.
